December in Cape Town is better than being on the French Riviera. Short of decking the halls with gin and tonics, the hotel’s newly launched ‘The Gin Lab @ The Conservatory’ is sure to be the destination of choice for Cape Town’s ever-burgeoning population of gin lovers.
“We have been working very hard on increasing our gin selection and we now offer some of the Western Cape’s finest gins, whilst still offering a superb international selection. We currently have 12 international and 15 local gins available and are constantly looking for new and exciting options to increase our local offering and simultaneously support the growing local craft gin market,” says food and beverage manager, Hilton Ruch.
The Gin Lab @ The Conservatory features three superb, not-to-be-missed offerings. At R250 per person, the daily gin tasting experience offers a flight of three local gins to be paired with three different tonic waters.
Ruch says: “They are served on a unique Gin tasting tray featuring a variety of botanicals and spices for you to enjoy with your own crafted gin and G&T. Each gin has its own specific flavour profile for you to experiment with, all while being hosted by our talented bar team throughout your experience.”
The Gin & Canape Tasting experience costs R395 per person and is available between 11:00 and 19:00, 24 hours’ notice is required for bookings.
“This experience pairs your delicious G&Ts with three Canapes designed by Chef Nicholas Goldschmidt,” says Ruch.
The “Gin Making Experience” takes place every Friday from 17:00 and offers a fun-filled evening where guests can craft their own gin in The Gin Lab. A welcome G&T with Canapes is served while our mixologist guides them through the wonderful world of gin and its abundance of flavour and fun.
For guests who don’t enjoy gin, The Twelve Apostles’ popular Craft Beer and Canape Experience is a fine substitute. This experience offers five local brews all individually paired with their own Canapes crafted by Chef Christo Pretorius. The cost is R295 per person and runs between 11:00 and 19:00 daily.
