My friends call me a glomad (a global nomad lest you don’t get it). That’s a particularly apt word, because I am always trawling all corners of the globe, looking for stories. As a result, I have slept in some seriously strange places – on a bed of ice in the Arctic circle, on the floor in a traditional Japanese hotel, on the sand dunes in the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan … and even on the floor of a Thai cargo ship. Mostly however I tend to sleep on aircraft (if I had a dog, he would bark at me when I eventually come home). I am passionate about trucks, cars, travel, food, wine, people and hugs – so I write about all these things. Except the hugs.

I’m Cyberstoep’s resident (self-appointed) motoring fanatic. My life has always revolved around anything with wheels and an engine. It doesn’t matter if its an old banger, the latest hot-hatch or a fancy 4×4 – any excuse is a good excuse to take it for a cruise, spank it at the track or go bundu-bashing (the mud-and-rocks-side-of-a-mountain type, not the exploring-Joburg’s-pavements type). Otherwise, chances are you’ll find me lying underneath one of my beloved toys or with my head buried in its engine bay, tinkering away. OK, I admit, this also the reason why our stoep is covered splotches of engine oil … Oh, I also occasionally get my greasy little paws behind the keyboard (that’s splotched with oil, too) to write about other fine things in life. Good food, interesting getaways, quiet family time at home, anything really.

I’m a bookaholic born and bred with too many novels on my already over-flowing bookshelves. When I’m not reading Lauren Beukes or binge watching New Girl, I’m writing … about everything. My interests and passions change almost daily as I learn about new things and causes. If I find it interesting, I will write about it. I don’t understand why anyone would spend money on a sports car when they can buy books. I’m more a dog person than a cat person, although I would love to own a bunny one day. I can never seem to tame my very curly hair. I will never say no to a movie date and I prefer my moijto shaken not stirred.

I see myself as a well-rounded journalist who is addicted to social media. A graduate from North-West University, I majored in Journalism and Political Sciences. I am series fanatic; cannot get over the Survivor series, Breaking Bad, Shameless US and Game of Thrones. When it comes to music, I listen to everything! I have had the pleasure to meet and work with various individuals in communications, media and other fields. I believe that my journey has just began and my story is still unwritten.

Shane and Tarryn, Team Tane, are South African adventurers who lead the high life. Literally. In the last five months the married duo and their baby Suzuki Jimny, “Badger”, have tackled 12 000 corrugated African kilometres and successfully scaled the continent’s five highest mountains in their current expedition: Suzuki Africa Sky High. Still on the road, they are on their way to Malawi, Zambia and Namibia before returning home in December, totaling about eight months living in their car. The avid adventurers are passionate about our planet and its people and through their missions promote environmental and cultural awareness.
