Formula 1 comes to Cape Town
February 21, 2019

South Africans will finally get to see Formula 1 (F1) in their back yard when multiple world championship-winning team Aston Martin Red Bull Racing brings speed, sound – and maybe a couple of donuts – to the Cape Town streets in June.

Red Bull Cape Town Circuit will take place at Cape Town’s iconic Grand Parade on June 2 and promises to be a motorsport spectacle of note, showcasing the best of what modern racing technology can do. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing machine is truly a technological marvel, designed and built by some of the world’s top engineers and has won four back-to-back F1 World Constructors’ Championships.

Fans will see the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing car speeding along an urban track, starting in front of the iconic City Hall facade. The car, which accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2,4 seconds, can reach speeds of 250 km/h and above, at the hands of one of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s experienced drivers.

The international star driver for the Red Bull Cape Town Circuit display will be revealed in the next few months in the lead-up to the event. He’ll be joined by a host of South African motorsport stars, who will bring their local brand of South African speed to the show.

The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing crew have taken this powerful machine to a number of incredible locations around the world. They’ve powered through the streets of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, lit up Marseille’s docklands, scythed through Belfast at night and done doughnuts on the roof of a skyscraper in Miami. Now, it’s Cape Town’s turn…

The day itself will be packed with family-friendly events and entrance will be free. Witnessing the kind of raw power and spectacular sound that the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing machine brings to the track, up-close and personal, is an experience like no other – and could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Capetonians and South Africa, at large.

More details about the Red Bull Cape Town Circuit will be released soon. In the meantime, fans can try to qualify for pole position by heading over to the Red Bull website for more details.

Cyberstoep
A stoep, stoop, porch, veranda or portico (whatever tickles your colloquial fancy) is loosely defined as a roofed platform along the outside of a house, level with the ground floor. It is, however, more than that … It’s a place where you can enjoy a sundowner after a hard day’s work, a place where you kuier with friends and discuss whatever is on your mind, or where you cuddle up with a good book on a glorious day. Welcome to our CyberStoep, where we’re doing all of this digitally and writing about life.
